AR/VR DIVISION

immersive Geospatial Visualization, Spatial Computing
and Intelligent Navigation

The AR/VR Division of the Geo-Intel Lab focuses on developing immersive, interactive and spatially aware applications using Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) technologies. The division integrates geospatial datasets, 3D terrain models, real-world spatial information and interactive visualization to support research, simulation and practical technology demonstrations.

Current work includes high-resolution lunar terrain visualization, planetary exploration environments, spatial computing, real-world navigation and emergency-response guidance. Using immersive headsets and Unity-based development environments, the division explores how digital environments and virtual objects can be visualized, manipulated and aligned with physical surroundings.

Two ongoing projects are in development: an immersive lunar exploration environment incorporating Chandrayaan-3 landing-site terrain, and an intelligent spatial navigation system designed to guide users toward safe exits in
emergency scenarios

Satellite-based crop monitoring, vegetation analysis, agricultural remote sensing, crop health assessment, and AI-driven insights for sustainable agriculture.

Meta Quest 2

Purpose:

To support immersive virtual reality experiences, 3D visualization, simulation-based learning, and VR application development for research and training.

  • LCD display with 1832 × 1920 resolution per eye.
  • Hand tracking and Touch controller interaction.
  • PC VR connectivity through Meta Quest Link.
  • Supports Unity, OpenXR, and Meta XR SDK.
  • Applications in virtual terrain exploration, geospatial visualization, and immersive simulations.

Meta Quest 3

Purpose:

To enable advanced virtual and mixed reality experiences by integrating interactive 3D content with real-world environments for spatial computing, visualization, and simulation.

Features:

  • Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor and 8 GB RAM.
  • High-resolution display with 2064 × 2208 pixels per eye.
  • Full-colour passthrough with depth sensing.
  • 6DoF tracking, hand tracking, and Touch Plus controllers.
  • Pancake lenses and refresh rates up to 120 Hz.
  • Supports Unity, OpenXR, and Meta XR SDK.
  • Applications in lunar terrain exploration, landing-site visualization, and mixed reality prototyping.

HoloLens 2

Purpose:

To deliver hands-free augmented and mixed reality experiences by overlaying interactive holographic information onto physical environments for spatial computing, navigation, and operational assistance.

Features:

  • See-through holographic display with a 52-degree diagonal field of view.
  • Snapdragon 850 processor and Holographic Processing Unit 2.0.
  • Inside-out 6DoF tracking and spatial mapping.
  • Hand, eye, and voice-based interaction.
  • Spatial sound and five-channel microphone array.
  • Supports Unity, OpenXR, MRTK, and Holographic Remoting.
  • Applications in AEGIS indoor emergency route guidance, holographic visualization, infrastructure inspection, and emergency-response training.
